These “social” tools are nothing but deliberate schemes feeding techno-authoritarianism, yet posing as authentic nostalgia. And what is nostalgia but pain, forcing you to never be present?
They are revisionist weapons aimed at our survival trait, our storytelling. We are living a prophecy straight out of Jean Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulation.
The ultimate insult is our confident sneer at the manipulation. We believe we’re in control. We mock the horror of technology yet rarely consider our awareness of it was already accounted for. The system anticipated our skepticism, orchestrated our rebellion, calculated our escape routes. Even now as I write this, I’ve stepped off the grid, only to stand firmly in another because freedom is an illusion. You are reading this on a social platform.
My “authentic” self became a convincing performance. I wasn’t expressing myself anymore.
I was managing how I was perceived by AI agents, strangers, and myself.
